Some Thoughts about the Green New Deal

The Green New Deal which name refers back to the New Deal is a resolution that aims to tackle climate change with the new legislation. The main goal of the green new deal is to reach zero greenhouse emissions and 100% clean energy. This is an extreme imagination and Joe Biden has declined the full plan proposed by the Green New Deal Platform. But he has promised to increase the generation of renewable energy, the transition to more energy-efficient buildings, and increase fuel efficiency standards for vehicles.

I think this resolution will significantly influence land development if some proposals of the Green New Deal become legislations. Although if these don’t come true, designers should be conscious that this resolution is conducive for our earth and integrate some conceptions with our designs. It is difficult to retrofit tens of millions of houses, but it is easy to achieve the goal of a new one.

Some actions can be involved in our design to help green development. Update HAVC units, install operable windows and automatic shades, paint surfaces of buildings and structures with heat-reflecting materials and hook up photovoltaics. However, extra effects should be taken into accounts, such as design cost, buildings safety, and potential increasing personal consumption.
